Villedieu-les-Poêles

Villedieu-les-Poêles (before 1962: Villedieu) is a former commune in the Manche department in Normandy in north-western France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Villedieu-les-Poêles-Rouffigny. Its inhabitants are called Sourdins from the French sourd meaning deaf. Historically, much of the population were involved in the manufacturing of copper pans, which involved repeated hammering, and many became deaf.
